Old Favourites Return for the World Cup

I photographed a few old pals this month. The first two were Ally McCoist and Fred MacAulay. They are set to revive their hit show for one night only as a special preview to Scotland’s first World Cup campaign in 28 years with ‘McCoist and MacAulay Live – World Cup Special’ at the SEC Armadillo in May. I was on the press team for The Herald & Times back ‘in the day’ for France 98. We all said that we could not believe it was so long ago. I have seen them both over the years but there was great chat talking about the games and the whole campaign. We all laughed when I said  that none of us had changed a bit. The press pictures got huge coverage in The Herald, The Scotsman, Daily Record to name a few.

On The Road

The other old pal that I photographed was, my old  Evening Times Sports team mate and columnist,  Tam Cowan. Tam and I started at the Evening Times in the same year 1991.  The broadcaster and journalist Tam started a  month before my start …… on April Fools’ Day. I have photographed him many times over the years for BBC Scotland’s Off The Ball  and he is always great company with great chat. Tam is now planning his first On The Road tour in September. With his wit and sharp observations to entertain live audiences from Troon to Strathpeffer.  Playing venues all around Scotland finishing at Pavilion Theatre in Glasgow, where I hope to catch up with him. We spent a very chilly hour on the back road from Lennoxtown to Fintry through the Campsie Fells to get a nice Scottish road background. It really worked for the poster.

A Dram for the First Minister

Loch Lomond is one of my favourite spots. I was also a big fan of Take The High Road set in small village of Luss. I was delighted to be asked along to photograph the opening of the new Luss Distillery,  the Loch Lomond Group’s new multi-million-pound distillery and visitor experience. The new distillery  was being officially opened by First Minister of Scotland, John Swinney. It was a huge investment on the banks of Loch Lomond and to be launched ahead of 2026’s peak tourist season. I got chatting to the First Minister about Scottish Islands and Tiree in particular where we go every year and found out he is a fan too.

On Stage at The Kings Theatre

I got a cheer on stage at The Kings Theatre in Glasgow this month. I was asked to do some pictures by the the multi-award winning company who have just celebrated 10 successful years of The Play That Goes Wrong at the Duchess Theatre in London. Its a hilarious show about the ever-hapless Cornley Polytechnic Drama Society. Everything that can go wrong does with hilarious results. I have seen it in London ,Glasgow and on TV. I love it, its so funny. When I was asked by the company if I could come and photograph the cast on stage with the audience behind them,I could not believe my luck. Especially when they said come along at 9.30 of it you want to come and see the show first. When they announced a picture was bring taken I got a big cheer as I walked on Stage. Everyone wanted to be in the picture.

Loving a Milk Round

I had lovely trip to Ayrshire to visit the family-run dairy firm Mills Milk (Scotland) Ltd . I met Adam Mills, the Managing Director, and sibling Abbey Mills at the family farm in Dalry, Ayrshire. This family-run dairy and logistics firm has grown turnover to £24 million, with the next generation of the Mills family now leading expansion across Scotland. It’s amazing how the business, which supplies around 35,000 households and 3,500 businesses from five depots and plans to reach £30 million turnover by 2026 while creating 30 new jobs. Adam the MD started as a “milk boy” at the age of five, helping his grandparents and dad with deliveries in Ayrshire. How cool it that.

Cavefit, Cool City Centre Gym

Being a bit of an athlete and health fanatic, well maybe I exaggerate a little,  I was asked along to Cavefit, Glasgow’s first high-end boutique gym. Cavefit officially opened this month. What a nice bunch. They really seemed to bring a fresh approach to training in a stunning city centre space with a super cool interior.

Ski Season

I managed a break up to one of my favourite spots, Aviemore, for a few days.  I got some great landscape pictures. I was at the Skies that make up a fence at The Pine Marten Bar + Scran in Glenmore by Aviemore The aprè ski  style bar and cafe is a great spot to see red squirrels.  loved this shot of lots of skis that were all put together as a fence. The colours and patterns made a really cool picture.
