Pointing to the Stars

I love everything about space. Its vastness, what’s out there, it does make me a bit nervous about it all, especially when the latest moon trips were happening. I was delighted to meet a more down to earth space traveller at the Glasgow Science Centre, which is continuing its 25th year celebrations by welcoming visitors living in the local postcode for a free visit. It was such a nice idea sharing its landmark birthday festivities with the local community. The Science Centre, funded by the Millennium Commission, first opened its doors in 2001 and has since welcomed over 6 million public visitors. I was one of the first and as I recall, I was in the building as they were putting the finishing touches to it for a photo essay for the Evening Times.
The Big Picture in the Usher Halls

I have never been to the Usher Hall in Edinburgh before and had my first visit with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra. They were performing a sold-out performance of Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No. 2 in C minor, “Resurrection” conducted by Sir Donald Runnicles. The performance was part of the BBC SSO’s 90th Anniversary Season had soloists Jennifer Davis and Karen Cargill with the Edinburgh Festival Chorus. My pictures showed Sir Donald Runnicles with soloists Jennifer Davis and Karen Cargill at the end of Mahler’s Resurrection Symphony with Edinburgh Festival Chorus and the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra. It was a big group to photograph but my picture came out so well. It made the big double page picture in The Scotsman and The Scottish Daily Mail Plus.
PreHab 2 ReHab

I met former St Mirren goalkeeper Ludovic Wilson-Roy who is now a qualified Health Coach and Cancer Rehabilitation professional with new Scottish charity that has launched in partnership with Beatson Cancer Charity aiming to transform how patients prepare for and recover from cancer treatment. In a first for Scotland, Prehab2Rehab provides specialist prehabilitation and rehabilitation support to people affected by cancer, helping them build physical and emotional resilience before treatment begins and supporting recovery afterwards. Ludo as he was known is with co-founder of Prehab2Rehab Liana Mullen, co-chair of the White Lily Fund, a West of Scotland charity that has raised £1.5m for breast cancer research. The White Lily Fund will provide some funding for Prehab2Rehab alongside part funding from Beatson Cancer Charity.
On Stage at The Kings… Again !

I was back treading the boards at the Kings Theatre again, after last month being on stage with the Goes Wrong Show. This time it was to celebrate with the Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice. The hospice was celebrating the contribution of its charity partner, the King’s Theatre, following almost four years of incredible support. During this time, staff from the Glasgow venue have raised money for the hospice in a variety of ways. Staff took part in the Kiltwalk and raised almost £2,000, the theatre donated show tickets for a monthly raffle and also provided auction prizes for hospice events. In total the King’s Theatre has supported Glasgow’s Hospice to the tune of £36,196.
On Board with the Spanish Navy

I was on board The Tall Ship Glenlee when the Glenlee Trust welcomed representatives from the Spanish Navy and the Spanish Consul General based in Edinburgh on board the historic vessel. The visit marked the ship’s long and significant connection with Spain. From 1922, Glenlee served for sixty years under Spanish ownership as a training vessel for the Spanish Navy under the name Galatea, before returning in June 1993 to the River Clyde where she was originally built. They were so interested in the whole ship and spent ages looking around. Some of them had family connections that worked on the ship back when. The Lord Provost also came along to welcome them. She enjoyed joining them up on deck as she was at the wheel.
World Book Day

I met the youngsters from St Mary’s Primary in Maryhill, Glasgow for World Book Day. I had met some of them before when I was photographing them for the Glasgow Times Primary 1 supplements. No they didn’t remember me. I was in with author and Storyteller Jo Hall as she created new characters with the pupils for World Book Day 2026.
The Training Station

A friend of mine Murray McGarvie has opened a new Gym in Milngavie called The Training Station. It is really state of the art. I was in to photograph him with some of the training staff. Co-owner and manager Chris McCann, who is the current Mr Scotland (National Amateur Bodybuilders’ Association) was on hand. We were lifting over some of the weights for the picture and I went to life a 25KG one. They all laughed as I couldn’t lift it. I did say it was because I was carrying heavy cameras but it didn’t wash at all.
