Popping Popcorn

Being no stranger to a coffee shop I was delighted to be asked along to a new dedicated gourmet popcorn shop. I met Maya whose love of popcorn had her come up with the brilliant idea of POP, serving freshly popped, hand-finished gourmet popcorn. It is defiantly a first of its kind. I am not a popcorn fan at all but I did love Maya’s. Very tasty and perfect with a coffee.

A New Gym for The High School of Glasgow

I got a tour of a super new gym at The High School of Glasgow School, which is part off their new Gym and Rugby Academy. I met Harry Murray, Head of the Rugby Academy, at the new gym. I was telling him about my short lived rugby career at school. I lasted half an hour. Too cold and rough for me. It is a great sport though and I do love to photograph it.

Music For a King

I have photographed King Charles many times over the years but this was the first time as King and not Prince Charles. I was at the New Cumnock Town Hall for The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and The King’s Foundation as they celebrated 10 years of transformative music and ballet programme for young people at Dumfries House. The King met students from the Royal Conservatoire and from the Dumfries House music programme. They performed music by composer Patrick Doyle, which was beautiful and I believe it brought a tear to the King’s eye. He really seemed to love it.

Happy Birthday Kami Bear

What a great day I had as hundreds of supporters came along to the Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity Kami Bear’s Teddy Trail. It was a special one this year as Kami was 25. The annual walk, sponsored by Allied Vehicles, saw participants put their best paw forward on a 5k and 10k route through the city. The charity’s beloved mascot Kami Bear was at the centre of the festivities as attendees celebrated his birthday as part of the event. The warm up was the best bit for me with. Sea of faces and everyone with their own teddies and all dressed up. I always get a wave as they head off at the start.

Waiting for The Hammer to Fall

I had an amazing night with the Royal Scottish National orchestra as they performed their season opening concert at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall, the Mahler Six conducted by Thomas Søndergård with soloist pianist Alexander Malofeev. Near the end of the concert a giant wooden mallet bangs down on a box creating a huge bang. Its part of the concert and really gives you a start. I thought the reference to the Queen Song Hammer to Fall worked well in this case.

Spooky Times at the Carnival

With Halloween on the horizon it was time for a photocall with Children’s Classic Concerts’ presenter, Owen Gunnell. He was visiting Play Fayre, a modern indoor fairground. With its fairground frights and flickering lights, he was wondering if you would be brave enough to visit this Creepy Carnival. It is always a great fun assignment to photograph.
